For some reason I’m really into song lyrics this weekend. Especially today. Today alone I’ve ‘felt the music’ several times.
It started this morning over coffee.
Easy Like Sunday Morning (Lionel Richie)
And continued on our visit to the park to play in the snow.
My Kind of Town (Frank Sinatra)
But it really resonated with me today in church when I listened to the following gospel:
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith? So do not worry and say, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear?’ All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides. Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil.
Don’t worry about what you are eating. Whether it be fat free, gluten free, carb free or meat free.
Be thankful you are fed.
Don’t worry about what you are wearing. If it’s Prada, JCrew, Target or Goodwill. Don’t worry about it.
Be thankful you are clothed.
All too often we get wrapped up in worrying about things that don’t matter. Materialistic things. Trivial things. And by filling our hearts with worry over the trivial things, we run out of space for the important stuff.
Are you fed? Are you clothed? Are you warm and loved? That’s all that you need. Worry about being a good person and the rest is taken care of.
Have a wonderful week!
On music theme, wonder if gospel inspired Oscar-winning movie theme song from Frozen.
Great song. Even when belted by 7 year old from the bathtub.
Beautifully said Sarah.
Thanks Mary! So nice to hear from you!
